Eastman Performing Arts Medicine (EPAM) Center, a joint venture at the University of Rochester between the Eastman School of Music and the University of Rochester Medical Center, invites applications for a full-time, tenure-eligible faculty appointment as the Evans Lam Research Professor in Music and Medicine. This is an open-rank position (Assistant, Associate, Full Professor); rank and salary will be commensurate with experience.

The Lam Research Professor will be expected to develop a national/international research profile exploring connections between music and medicine. While the University of Rochester has particular strengths in Neuroscience, Cognitive Science, Psychology, and Orthopedics, all areas of relevant research specialization are open for consideration. EPAM currently has funded pilot projects in collaboration with the UR Aging Institute and the Pluta Cancer Center, as well as an affinity network of artists and research scientists who meet regularly to support the creation of new work at this intersection.

It is anticipated that the Lam Research Professorship will begin during the fall of 2025 or at the candidate’s earliest availablity.

Major responsibilities:

· Oversee and strengthen the research portfolio of Eastman Performing Arts Medicine (EPAM) Center;
· Set the research strategy of EPAM by collaborating with faculty researchers across the university;
· Secure external research funding for large-scale projects;
· Write and publish research in highly ranked journals;
· Active involvement and leadership in scholarly and professional activities including attendance at conferences and seminars.

Qualifications
· A PhD, MD, or equivalent degree in a field such as in Neuroscience, Cognitive Science, Psychology, Orthopedics, or another relevant domain;
· Successful research background in a relevant discipline;
· Applicants must demonstrate their record of ability to work with a culturally diverse population;
· Applicants must have a demonstrated research connection to music and health;
· Applicants must have a demonstrated potential for developing and maintaining external funding for their research.
