 George Family Center for Healing Arts Artist in Residence Program at Rowan Medicine 

Position: Visual Artist in Residence Location: Rowan Medicine, Stratford and Vineland, NJ Schedule: Part-Time, Flexible Hours 

Position Overview: 

The George Family Center for Healing Arts of Rowan University is seeking a Visual Artist in Residence to provide engaging, hands-on visual arts experiences for patients, families, staff, and providers at Rowan-Virtua Medicine. This position involves leading one-on-one art sessions, group workshops, and community-based art initiatives that support healing, connection, and creative expression in clinical settings. The artist will collaborate with medical staff to integrate visual arts into patient care and wellness programming. 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Facilitate a variety of visual arts sessions including painting, drawing, and mixed media for individuals and groups in clinical and community spaces.
  • Work alongside healthcare staff to support patient well-being through creative engagement.
  • Provide hands-on instruction in artistic techniques, ensuring all participants can meaningfully engage in the process.
  • Incorporate participant feedback to shape evolving programming.
  • Maintain an organized, welcoming, and safe art-making environment.
  • Help promote the George Family Center for Healing Arts and foster a culture of creativity and care throughout Rowan-Virtua Medicine.

Ideal Candidate Qualifications: 

  • Prior experience teaching, facilitating workshops, or leading community-based art projects.
  • Extensive experience in fine arts, including various styles and materials
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a compassionate and welcoming approach.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with various groups, including patients, caregivers, students, and healthcare workers.
  • A passion for the intersection of arts and healthcare, with an understanding of how creative expression can enhance well-being.

Required Credentials: 

  • High School Diploma/GED required
  • Minimum of one year working in a healthcare setting or comparable experience.
  • Familiarity with the emotional, ethical, and cultural considerations of working in healthcare environments.
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office and email communication.
