2:10-2:30 Jill Sonke: Graduate Certificate (GC) in Arts in Public Health

“Engage the arts to enhance public health, advance health communication, address health disparities and injustice, and promote a culture of health. This program is designed for graduate students and professionals in public health, the arts, and other health and human services professions who are interested in empowering their communities through the arts.”

2:30-2:50 Professor Nancy E. Epstein: Graduate minor in Arts and Community Health
“Art reflects the complexity of being human. The new graduate minor in Arts and Community Health focuses on the vitality and power of the arts to transform individuals, neighborhoods, communities and societies.

The minor builds on Philadelphia’s renowned commitments to community arts and the growing evidence-base linking creative arts and positive health. Learning how to design and evaluate community-based arts and health initiatives will provide public health students with a valuable toolkit for social change and improving health at every level.”

2:50-3:05 Elaine Poggi: “The unique mission of the Foundation is to place large, framed photographs of nature and beautiful places from around the world in hospitals to give comfort and hope to patients and their families, visitors, and caregivers. Studies show that nature art has a beneficial effect on relieving a patient’s stress and anxiety.

The Foundation values the full range of human diversity and seeks to cross cultures by speaking to different personalities through nature art”. Attendees will have opportunities for involvement in furthering their mission, including with their own images if applicable.
